Video: LeBron James Comes Off The Bench For Only The Second Time In His Entire NBA Career

LeBron James is playing off the bench for only the second time in his career against the Chicago Bulls. The last time that happened was in 2007 when he was still with the Cavaliers.

LeBron James has returned to play for the Los Angeles Lakers after a month out thanks to a foot injury. James has 8 games to get back up to speed and, as such, started on the bench on his return. This is the first time he has done that since his first stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2007, a historic moment.

LeBron James got a standing ovation from the fans at Crypto.com Arena as he checked into the game after doing his customary chalk toss. It was an incredible moment as it is only the second time this has happened in the 1680 games that LeBron James has played in the NBA. The last time he came off the bench was on December 11th, 2007, over 15 years ago.

The Los Angeles Lakers will need LeBron James to be healthy if they are going to make the NBA playoffs and have a chance at winning if they do get there. He will likely need some time to get back up to speed, so it makes sense for James to come off the bench as they manage his return from injury.

The team has finally reached a .500 record and has a chance to take the next step with a win against the Chicago Bulls. This is easier said than done as the Bulls have been playing quite well recently as well. Having LeBron James back will be a morale boost, but it will also be a learning process as they try to fit him into the new system they have going.

LeBron James Wasn’t Expected To Be Fully Healthy Even For The Playoffs

Amid the excitement surrounding the return of LeBron James, many might forget just how incredible it is that he is already playing again. There was an expectation that he might not be able to return before the regular season ended and that he might not even be fully healthy for the playoffs.

“I reported a few weeks ago that the Lakers had to try and do whatever they could to try to win as many games as possible to give LeBron James as much time to recover as possible. So that means that even when he does come back, he might not be fully healthy.”

LeBron James’ longevity is almost hard to believe at this point. The fact that he was able to recover as quickly as he did against all the odds is another testament to his freakish ability. Now, he and the Lakers just need to focus on the games at hand and win as much as they can.
