3 Min Read

Being an NBA GM brings with it a lot of perks and benefits, but of course, there are a ton of responsibilities and headaches that come with it as well. Sean Marks knows that all too well now, after having dealt with Kyrie Irving for the past 3 seasons, and he now has the whole Kevin Durant situation to deal with as well.

Marks has, in many ways, been thrust into the spotlight after recent events, with his actions being monitored ever so closely. Just at the Summer League, fans took notice of the fact that he was in conversation with Raptors GM Masai Ujiri. Now, unless you have been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’d know that the Raptors have been touted as one of the destinations where Durant might end up at after requesting a trade from the Nets. Adrian Wojnarowski had previously stated that the Raptors could make the most seamless trade for KD, and we’d love to know what they were talking about here.

Marks wasn’t done talking to GMs for the day, as he was later spotted engaging in conversation with his Lakers counterpart Rob Pelinka and that got social media buzzing too, considering all the talk of Kyrie Irving heading to LA.

Brian Windhorst had reported that it’s only a matter of time before Irving ends up with the Lakers in a deal that would involve Russell Westbrook and these public conversations would just add more credence to those reports. These two also had a mysterious meeting back at the combine and we’ll see what happens next here.

Marks would undoubtedly be disappointed at the prospect of losing Durant and Irving, but in some ways, he would be relieved to not have to deal with the headaches that the two have definitely given him in their time there. He had built up an exciting young team in Brooklyn after taking over as GM in 2016, which was dismantled in the process of acquiring these two as well as James Harden. He might get to do it all over again now depending on how things pan out from here on out.
