The new in-season tournament has been a polarizing concept for fans. It seems like teams are wrapping their heads around it and realize that they have another trophy to compete for. That’s how the Warriors are approaching it, as Mike Dunleavy Jr. has revealed the team is motivated to try and win the tournament.

“I think for us, the general consensus I’m getting from our group is that we’ll be highly competitive towards it. We want to win it. Any time you have a chance to grab some hardware, this group has shown the competitiveness they have, and we want to win.”

The four-time champions know the value of silverware, especially in the modern era. Even if an NBA title is the primary goal for all 30 teams, the in-season tournament adds something else to win and adds some fire to regular-season matchups.

Can The Warriors Win The NBA Cup?

The Golden State Warriors have more championship pedigree than any modern NBA roster. They know how to win, but last season showed the team’s regression from champions to second-round exits. They haven’t necessarily improved their roster this summer, which will make fans uncomfortable. Adding Chris Paul may not be enough.

The group draw for Golden State is straightforward. Outside the Kings, they don’t have any real threats in group play. The Spurs are unknown until we know how Victor Wembanyama transitions into the NBA, while the Wolves haven’t made a big noise with their big three over the last season.

The Thunder could be interesting foes given the year-on-year improvement they’re showing. If they can make it out of group play, the Warriors would likely be favored to win games in mini-tournament situations due to the swathes of big games they’ve played in the last decade.
