Carmelo Anthony was quite simply one of the best players of his generation. A scorer extraordinaire, Anthony won a scoring title in 2013 and finished his career with impressive averages of 22.5 PPG, 6.2 RPG, 2.7 APG, 1.0 SPG, and 0.5 BPG.

His lack of postseason success and deficiencies on the defensive end, though, meant Melo has never really been mentioned in that upper echelon of all-time greats. Will Barton, however, says Anthony is a top 15 player of all time if you go by the eye test.

“Crazy handle, mid-range shooting, getting to the rim, first step was quick,” Barton said. “If we going off just eye test of basketball, it ain’t 15 other guys that I’ve ever seen that were better than him.”

Melo certainly had all the tools to be an offensive powerhouse, and there haven’t been too many in NBA history who had his package of size, skill, and athleticism. At the end of the day, though, an eye test is just such an arbitrary way to judge a player.

If Anthony was indeed one of the 15 greatest players ever, he should have been able to elevate his teams in the playoffs consistently. That’s what the all-time great players do, but except for one trip to the Western Conference Finals with the Denver Nuggets in 2009, Melo never led his teams past the second round of the playoffs.

Barton is, of course, entitled to his opinion, but he certainly won’t have too many people agreeing with him on this.

Will Barton Named Kobe Bryant As The Best Basketball Player Ever

While Barton’s take on Melo isn’t going to be all that popular, his take on Kobe Bryant certainly would be. He claimed Kobe is the best basketball player ever and is just another in a fairly long line of players to feel that way.

Barton just felt Kobe could not be guarded as he was great at everything on the offensive end and he laughed at the fact that someone could be that good at the game.

Kyrie Irving is another who considers Kobe to be the GOAT and he doesn’t care about the stats. Bryant may not be regarded as the greatest by much of the media or the fans, but the way he played the game really resonated with the players themselves, who have almost always held him in the highest regard.
