Fadeaway World

The Spurs have not gotten off to a good start at all, and are currently way out of the playoff picture. In fact, the Spurs are looking like a lottery team.

While we can never count out the Spurs, of course, this might be the season where they need to move on from their stars. More specifically, LaMarcus Aldridge has not been playing well in San Antonio and it seems the writing is on the wall for him. For the Spurs, moving him for young players and expiring contracts seems like the best thing to do.

Here are all the trade scenarios the Spurs should consider by moving on from LaMarcus Aldridge.

Boston Celtics

Trade offer: Marcus Smart, Gordon Hayward, Daniel Theis and a 1st round pick for LaMarcus Aldridge and Rudy Gay

This makes sense for both teams since Boston looks to be a title contender this season while San Antonio needs to revamp and rebuild their squad. Smart has always looked like a Spurs player, while Hayward will soon have his contract expired.

Boston needs more talent to compete with the best teams in the league, and their areas of weaknesses are clearly the power forward and center positions. Theis has played very well, but Aldridge is a 20 point scorer who will make a living surrounded by the Celtics stars. As for San Antonio, they could use some expiring contracts to clear cap space and begin a rebuild with the addition of a first-round pick.

Charlotte Hornets

Trade Offer: Bismack Biyombo, Malik Monk, Miles Bridges, Willy Hernangomez and a 1st round pick for LaMarcus Aldridge

The Hornets clearly have a lack of talent, although they are playing hard and playing relatively well. Aldridge would automatically be the main guy for Charlotte, where he could possibly return to his All-NBA form and form a tough partnership with Terry Rozier. Charlotte could certainly use his talent and scoring ability to keep them competitive.

The Spurs would receive an excellent package of young players who can help them immediately and into the future. Monk is an exciting talent, who is an explosive guard that can score in many ways. Bridges is a nice player who is looking like an overall player that can make an impact in a proper system. Any other fillers would be expiring contracts that would clear some cap space.

Denver Nuggets

Trade Offer: Paul Millsap, Will Barton, Michael Porter Jr., Juan Hernangomez for LaMarcus Aldridge and Rudy Gay

Denver wants to win now, and they can put themselves in a position to win by adding another star big man alongside Nikola Jokic. Aldridge and Jokic would give them a 1-2 scoring punch from down low and even from the perimeter. If they can surround those two with shooters, Denver can be a real problem. Rudy Gay would also give them some more scoring and athleticism off the bench.

For the Spurs, they would get a ton of cap space from Milsap’s contract and a very effective Will Barton who could provide energy and scoring off the bench. The real gem is Porter Jr, who they can hope can build on the tremendous potential. Porter might be part of a Spurs core leading them into the future.

Phoenix Suns

Trade Offer: Tyler Johnson, Mikal Bridges, Dario Saric, Aron Baynes and a 1st round pick for LaMarcus Aldridge

The Sun’s are actually looking like a good team, and Aldridge would look great in a Suns jersey alongside Devin Booker and even Ayton when he returns. The Suns would probably be a playoff contender with Aldridge in the mix since they have good players including Oubre Jr. They would also get a chance to remain competitive as they try to build a winning culture.

For the Spurs, they would receive both Saric and Bridges who are nice young players. Bridges especially look like a player that can guard multiple positions, and score from the inside and outside. The Spurs can add them to their nice young core and even benefit from expiring contracts. Don’t forget that Tyler Johnson’s contract will expire next summer and because of that he is a valuable trade asset.

The Spurs might even throw in Lonnie Walker or Marco Belinelli to continue clearing cap space and removing players who aren’t performing.

Chicago Bulls

Trade Offer: Bulls: Zach LaVine, Wendell Carter Jr., Chandler Hutchison for LaMarcus Aldridge

Finally, the Bulls could use Aldridge to keep competitive in a very top-heavy East. By adding Aldridge, the Bulls could start a very effective lineup with the likes of Aldridge, Markkanen, Porter, and White all starting. This is a good lineup that is a certain playoff contender if they play well together.

For the Spurs, LaVine and Carter Jr. are already very good players who still have a high ceiling. Adding these two guys to a team with Derrick White and Dejounte Murray would give them a very interesting core to build on. The Spurs should certainly consider adding LaVine who can probably equal the scoring provided by Aldridge.
