Andrew Wiggins Is The Best ISO Scorer This Season: Better Than Irving, Durant, And Harden

3 Min Read

Andrew Wiggins entered this season with normal expectations. NBA fans were always waiting for him to blossom into the superstar people tried to sell before the 2014 NBA draft. Well, he hasn’t reached that level yet and it’s unclear if he’ll ever do it.

However, he’s trying to help his Golden State Warriors with anything they need and one overlooked aspect of Wiggins this season is that he’s statistically the best ISO scorer in the NBA right now. One Redditor called “xxStayFly81xx” found out that the Warriors player is posting better numbers than other big stars like the Brooklyn Nets’ Big 3 of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving.

Via Reddit:

Among players with at least 2 isolation attempts per game and at least 65% of available games played, Andrew Wiggins leads all players with 1.41 PPP (points per possession.) He’s shooting 67.8 eFG% in that situation. Kyrie Irving (1.36 PPP), Kevin Durant (1.27 PPP), DeMar DeRozan (1.26 PPP) and James Harden (1.22 PPP) round out the rest of the top 5. Thing about Harden is his PPP for HOU and BKN is separated. His BKN ranks 5th while his HOU ranks 13th.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Russell Westbrook comes in dead last with 0.65 PPP. He’s shooting 34.8 eFG%. Jayson Tatum (0.75 PPP), Devin Booker (0.78 PPP), Luka Doncic (0.85 PPP) and Julius Randle (0.86 PPP) round the remaining bottom 4.

Kyrie Irving leads all players in scoring frequency during an isolation attempt where he produces at least one point 63.1% of the time while Tatum is dead last at 31.6% of the time.

This doesn’t mean that Wiggins is the best ISO scorer or most gifted scorer in the league but the player can do the job when he’s asked to or when he feels the play needs to be solved by one player. “Maple Jordan” is doing everything he can to help Stephen Curry and the Warriors this season.

This stat proves he’s taking some liberties and responsibilities on the court and seeing his numbers, he’s doing it just fine.
