The Plan B For The Lakers If They Fail To Sign Kyrie Irving And Kemba Walker

The Los Angeles Lakers just completed a major move and free agency hasn’t even begun, as they already traded most of their young core in order to pair Anthony Davis with LeBron James once and for all.

However, Rob Pelinka and the Lakers are nowhere near satisfied yet, so they’re expected to pursue another top-tier player in free agency even with Davis on board, with Kyrie Irving and Kemba Walker as their top targets.

Still, Irving’s future remains a huge question mark and is expected to join the Brooklyn Nets, while Kemba has said that he’d much rather stay put with the Hornets, so let’s take a look at three players they could pursue as a plan B, in case they miss out on both of them.

3. Darren Collison

Darren Collison is no superstar, but he’s proven to be a more than capable playmaker and shooter. With LeBron James – and probably Rajon Rondo – on board, they don’t need a ball-dominant point guard, and Collison would be a nice fit next to them.

While not much of a volume scorer, Collison is a career 39% shooter from beyond the arc, and with Davis and LeBron on your team, you must have shooters around. Also, he’d love to have the chance to play for a ring, and won’t ask for much money.

2. Derrick Rose

Derrick Rose’s first stint playing next to LeBron James didn’t go nearly half as well as planned, but still, they developed a nice rapport, and Rose deserves to have the chance to play for an NBA Championship before retiring.

Rose had some great scoring outings with the Minnesota Timberwolves this season and even recorded a career-high 50 points and proved he’s more than worthy of another shot at running the offense on a Championship team.

1. Patrick Beverley

The Lakers need backcourt defense, playmaking, and three-point shooting, and Patrick Beverley happens to check all three boxes for them, even though his allegiance seems to be with the Clippers.

The Clippers still have Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, Lou Williams, and Landry Shamet and aren’t likely to favor paying a big buck for another point guard in the summer, so the Lakers could make a run at one of the peskiest’s defenders we’ve seen since Tony Allen.
