This summer, the Los Angeles Lakers managed to make some shrewd additions in free agency, while also retaining key free agents of their own. One of the players that they managed to add was point guard Gabe Vincent, who played a key role in the Miami Heat getting to the NBA Finals.

When speaking on The Old Man and the Three podcast, Gabe Vincent explained why he ended up leaving the Heat for the Lakers. He noted that “business played a role”, though he noted he was serious about “wanting to go back” to the Heat as well.

“Yeah, first of all, I don’t think it was easy,” Vincent said. “Like you said, Miami was the team that gave me an opportunity. I grew while there. We had some great runs while I was there. So it wasn’t easy and I don’t think it’s any secret, I was pretty open about willing to go back and wanting to go back, and my love for the organization, I think it was pretty reciprocated.

“But when it came down to it, business got in the way, and there were certain points that the Heat could only get to and other teams were able to get to more. It just kind of made more sense at the end of the day. And business played a role but also just situations, et cetera. So LA was the play and we’re looking forward to the future a little bit.” (6:17)

The Los Angeles Lakers gave Gabe Vincent a three-year deal worth $33 million, and it is clear that this was a move based on finances. It will be exciting to see Gabe Vincent with the Los Angeles Lakers this season. He seems like a perfect role player for them in terms of his skill set, and he has obviously shown that he can compete on the highest stage.

Gabe Vincent had a great postseason run with the Miami Heat, averaging 12.7 PPG, 1.4 RPG, and 3.5 APG and also shooting an efficient 37.8% from 3PT range. He will get a lot of open looks next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, and perhaps he can have a career year with the Lakers.

Some Believe That Gabe Vincent Is The Perfect Point Guard For The Lakers

There is no doubt that many are high on the Los Angeles Lakers acquiring Gabe Vincent. In fact, one league executive claimed that the guard is the “perfect point guard” who can play next to superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

“One league executive raved about the Lakers signing Gabe Vincent, saying the guard is ‘the perfect point guard to play alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.’”

Hopefully, that executive is right about Gabe Vincent’s fit with the Los Angeles Lakers. We’ll have to wait to see how Vincent looks on the court, but all signs point to him being a good signing for the team.
