Chris Paul Has Always Dreamed Of Being On The Lakers And Playing With LeBron James, Says NBA GM

Point guard Chris Paul may no longer be the All-NBA player that he once was, but there’s no doubt that he is still an impact player that can play a big role on a championship-contending team.

Despite his abilities, it was recently revealed that the Phoenix Suns will explore trading Chris Paul, and there’s even a chance that the point guard could be waived. After this news, an NBA GM revealed that the Lakers should be considered the primary team to watch in the Chris Paul sweepstakes, noting that the point guard has always wanted to play for the team and be on the same roster as his close friend LeBron James.

“Lakers first,” one Eastern Conference GM said, per Sean Deveney of Heavy. “It’s not definite, a lot can happen. But you’d have to start there. He always had (the) dream of being a Laker (and) playing with LBJ (James).”

Though it seems unlikely that the Lakers will manage to get Chris Paul via trade, acquiring him as a veteran minimum signing after a potential buyout would be great for the franchise. The team clearly needs a steady option at point guard, and Chris  Paul could be the answer.

In the regular season, Chris Paul put up 13.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, and 8.9 APG for the Phoenix Suns. Aside from the Lakers, there are likely other teams that would love to get him in the event of a buyout, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.

Chris Paul Almost Got Traded To The Lakers In 2011

In 2011, Chris Paul was almost traded to the Lakers, but the league ended up vetoing the trade. Recently, Chris Paul opened up on that situation, stating that it would have been fun to play with Kobe Bryant.

“It’s crazy how all that stuff went down, man,” Paul said. “How the GM called, me and Kobe got on the phone, we talked. A phone call came through to let us know that the trade was nixed… We thought the trade was happening, it didn’t… I hate that that opportunity didn’t get to happen because especially at that point in my career, I always knew how good Kobe was even at catch-and-shoot, but he’s never got the chance to show that part of his game. Had we got a chance to play together, I think it could have been fun.”

It definitely would have been fun to watch Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul play on the same team. That could have resulted in a championship. Unfortunately, Kobe Bryant was unable to win another championship with the acquisitions the team made later on: neither Dwight Howard nor Steve Nash was a good fit for the franchise.

However, perhaps Chris Paul can help the team win a championship during the LeBron James era. We will see if he ends up on the Lakers, as there are likely other options for him if he gets bought out by the franchise.
