Point guard Markelle Fultz was selected as the No. 1 overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2017, with him being highly touted due to his shooting and scoring ability. However, a shoulder injury ended up affecting his ability to perform at a high level, and Fultz was eventually traded to the Orlando Magic

There is no doubt that Markelle Fultz has fought through injuries to become a solid player, and he averaged 13.9 PPG, 3.9 RPG, and 5.7 APG for the Orlando Magic this season. This version of Fultz would have been solid for the 76ers, and he recently claimed that he could have helped them win if the team was patient and let him recover.

The Philadelphia 76ers have not had a huge amount of playoff success during the Joel Embiid era thus far, and it is fair to say that the team has been underwhelming. Markelle Fultz would definitely increase the overall talent level of the team, but it is highly unlikely that he would have been the swing factor in them winning a championship.

The Philadelphia 76ers Are Targeting Point Guards In Free Agency If James Harden Leaves

The Philadelphia 76ers’ point guard situation is dire as of right now, and star James Harden is a threat to leave in free agency. In fact, the team is reportedly already preparing for that possibility, with Damian Lillard and Kyrie Irving being on their list of targets in that scenario.

“If James Harden leaves, expect the Philadelphia 76ers to attempt to trade for Damian Lillard or Kyrie Irving. Tyrese Maxey and Tobias Harris will be involved in both trades.”

Tyrese Maxey is one of the brightest young talents in the association, and any deal for a star-level player or above likely starts with him being moved. Kyrie Irving and Damian Lillard are both players that can help the Philadelphia 76ers win with Joel Embiid.

There are also other players that have been linked to the Philadelphia 76ers in recent memory, with a notable name being Fred VanVleet. The team is clearly exploring their options as of right now. Of course, they could still end up re-signing James Harden, but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared for every possibility.
