The Golden State Warriors ultimately fell well short in their quest to defend their title, as the 2022 champs were knocked out by the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.

While there were some tensions during the series over the officiating and flopping, all seems forgotten now, with both sides showing each other a lot of respect. Stephen Curry even gifted Lonnie Walker a signed jersey, but it had a hilarious message on it.

“Will never forgive you for Game 4 …!”

Game 4, of course, saw Walker score 15 points in the fourth quarter to help the Lakers come away with a 104-101 win. The Warriors led 84-77 entering the fourth but thanks to Walker, L.A. won the quarter 27-17 to escape with victory. If Golden State had won that game, the series could have turned out very differently, but instead, they fell down 3-1 and it was all but over at that point.

For as great as they are, they weren’t going to overturn that deficit against a team led by LeBron James and his 30-point outing in Game 6 ensured there wasn’t going to be a spectacular comeback. The Warriors will always look back at that Game 4 as their missed opportunity and Curry certainly isn’t going to forget about it for a long time.

Stephen Curry And The Warriors Spoke On Failing To Defend Their Title

Following their loss in Game 6, Curry stated they weren’t legitimate title contenders this season and hinted that Draymond Green punching Jordan Poole before the campaign did affect the team. He says they need to be better as there are no moral victories for them.

Head coach Steve Kerr also stated they weren’t a championship team this season as they were barely even in the playoff picture for most of the campaign. The franchise does believe though that its core can still compete for titles and Draymond feels the dynasty isn’t over just yet. It will be interesting to see what moves the Warriors make this offseason as some changes are needed if they are to be serious contenders in 2023-24.
