The Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated by the Miami Heat in the first round this season, an outcome that most people weren’t expecting at the start of the playoffs. This was clearly disappointing for everyone in the franchise, as this was supposed to be a year where they went to the championship.

A recent report from Shams Charania revealed that head coach Mike Budenholzer’s status as head coach is “shaky”, adding that “there are questions” about him from all over the organization.

“Mike Budenholzer’s status as Bucks head coach is very much shaky, there are questions across the organization, locker room, throughout this franchise about his status moving forward” Charania said. “I’m told Budenholzer has two years and $16 million left on his contract. He is a championship coach… But you can look at three factors to why people are pointing the finger to Budenholzer… Particularly the lack of adjustments to Jimmy Butler.”

There is no doubt that this is unsurprising. Mike Budenholzer made several mistakes in Game 5 against the Miami Heat, including a moment where he was tricked by Erik Spoelstra which led to a Jimmy Butler bucket. It makes sense to question him, though it must also be noted that he is a championship-winning coach.

Mike Budenholzer Believes The Season Was A Failure

There is no doubt that this was a disappointing season for the Milwaukee Bucks. Getting beaten by the No. 8 seed as a No. 1 seed is unacceptable, and Budenholzer noted that the team is “disappointed, hurt, and frustrated”.

“I respect the question. I understand the question. This team has incredibly high expectations,” Budenholzer said. “We’re disappointed. We’re frustrated. It hurts. But I said it all year, we love this team. We love these guys. I believe in them. We believe in them. We didn’t get it done tonight. But to me, just disappointed, hurt, frustrated, I think is more characteristic of how we feel about tonight.”

The Milwaukee Bucks are still a talented team, and they will be a good regular season team next season. However, this elimination has raised questions about whether they are in fact a championship contender. Giannis Antetokounmpo has to play perfect every game to give them a chance, and the team clearly needs to add talent to the roster to help him have an easier time in the playoffs.
