After going down 0-2 in the first-round series against the Sacramento Kings, the Golden State Warriors have leveled things following crucial wins in Game 3 and Game 4.
Speaking of Game 4, the Dubs registered a close 125-126 win over the Kings, but things could have gone either way, thanks to a disastrous attempt to call a timeout by Stephen Curry. Steph tried to call a timeout when the Warriors were out of them, and it led to the Kings scoring four unanswered points.
“I knew we challenged, but I didn’t realize when we lost the challenge that we didn’t have any timeouts left,” Curry said of his blunder. “I know [Kerr] mentioned he took the blame for it, I ain’t going to lie, I thought it was the smartest play in the world. When I got the ball, turn around, saw a trap, realized there was no real outlets, instead of turning it over, it’s kind of the play, but it turned out not to be. I looked over at the bench and everybody was shaking their head.
“So it was an unfortunate situation in that respect. But good learning lesson. Thankfully, we came away with the win, but good learning lesson on how important all those details are. We know it, but knowing time outs, knowing the situation, there’s just an unfortunate sequence right there.”

Curry’s blunder could have led to the Warriors going down 1-3 in the series. Although Steve Kerr took the blame for not mentioning to his players that they were out of timeouts, had the Warriors lost the game, Curry would have shouldered most of the blame.
All things considered, the Warriors were certainly lucky and have tied the series at 2-2. They now have a shot at completing a famous comeback by winning the series over the next couple of games.

The first two games of the series didn’t go in favor of the Warriors. So much so that it was the first time in his career that Curry was down 0-2 in the playoffs.
Considering the Warriors are the defending champions of the league, it was shocking to see them struggle against the Kings in the opening round of the playoffs. Fast forward to today, the Dubs now have a chance to create history.
Since 2010 every defending champion in the NBA who has trailed 0-2 in the playoffs the following year has failed to defend their title. If the Warriors can win two more games vs. the Kings, they will end up breaking the curse.
