Kendrick Perkins may have had his share of flak for his comments on the MVP race, but the analyst hasn’t shied away from dropping bombs. This time, he slammed the Golden State Warriors for their inconsistent run and picked the Sacramento Kings to win the Western Conference Finals.
“I understand they have history. I understand, we have to respect their history,” he said, speaking on First Take. “Four-time NBA champions. I get all that. [But] when I look at the Golden State Warriors, Stephen A., this is how it’s done. They are dead bird, tall grass. They are done.”
He further added: “I’m gonna say this right now: [The Warriors] better stay the hell away from the Sacramento Kings. No matter how inexperience they may have for us when it comes down to the postseason, they have old souls. And Mike Brown is doing a hell of a job right now.”
"I'm gonna say this right now: [The Warriors] better stay the hell away from the Sacramento Kings… One, the Kings are going to the Western Conference Finals, but two, the Golden State Warriors, their championship days are over."

The Warriors and the Kings have had contrasting runs this season. While the latter has been at the top, winning 40 of their games this season, the Warriors have been inconsistent at best.
Perkins’ comments surely will generate massive pushback from the Warriors fans for his hot take. While he does say the unit may make the postseason, he believes they aren’t a championship team.
Stephen A. Smith Says The Golden State Warriors Can’t Defend Their Title
Echoing Perkins’ sentiments was NBA analyst Stephen A. Smith who felt the Warriors wouldn’t mostly defend their title this time.
I don’t think they will,” Smith explained on NBA Countdown “I gotta acknowledge I’m getting to a point where I’m ready to give up on the Golden State Warriors. I don’t recognize this team when they’re on the road.”
“The other day they gave up 48 points in the first quarter,” he said. “48 points to the Memphis Grizzlies without Ja Morant, 32 points in the fourth quarter… It’s like the second they leave the Bay Area, they forget how to play basketball, at least the quality of basketball we have grown accustomed to seeing.”
The Warriors are still afloat with a 35-33 record and sixth in the West, but much of their success depends on the consistency and momentum they will have to generate in the remaining games left in the season.
While they are wobbly at the moment, they are one of the teams with championship experience and DNA, making it impossible to count them out. But credit where it’s due, the Kings have been impressive and formidable. It remains to be seen how these two teams will fare in the playoffs.
