James Wiseman’s tenure with the Golden State Warriors wasn’t the best, and the player is on a different team now, set to show his quality.
They made the decision of trading Wiseman away this season, but the team’s owner believes they could regret this decision eventually.
“Very hard. Very hard. You know, we might very well regret that one, longer-term or even intermediate-term.
“But as much as I love the guy, I can’t overrule what our basketball ops and our coaches and our players felt was the right thing to do. So it’s a consensus thing. We’re ‘we’, we’re not ‘me.’ And we’re going to do what the best thing is, and we felt it would improve our team short term and kind of went for it for Gary,” Joe Lacob told The Athletic.
The former No. 2 overall pick failed to meet expectations with the Dubs, and injuries and the pressure to start delivering for a team with championship aspirations didn’t help his development.
Steve Kerr, Klay Thompson, and the rest of the team always supported Wiseman, but they needed to make a change and traded him in the multiple-team deal that brought Gary Payton II back to the Dubs. This trade was in jeopardy at some point, but the Dubs completed it while making a complaint against the Portland Trail Blazers.
James Wiseman Is Showing An Excellent Level On Detroit Pistons
Wiseman is now on the Detroit Pistons, trying to help that team become one of the forces of the Eastern Conference in the future. They have a great group of young players ready to make a splash in the league, but right now, they’re just trying to get better.
This environment could help Wiseman a lot, and his numbers with the team show that he’s having a nice time there. In five games with Motor City, James is posting 11.8 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 0.4 assists. He’s shooting 59.1% from the field and 60.0% from the free-throw line.
He appears to be getting to the best level, and once he fulfills his potential, it will be scary hours for the rest of the league. Wiseman is trying to do a good job now, and the change of scene can work wonders for his career.
