Ja Morant has had a rapid rise to stardom in the NBA. The second pick of the 2019 NBA Draft, there were some concerns regarding Ja because of the level of competition he played against when he was at Murray State, but it was clear to everybody in his rookie season that Morant was something special.

He then took a big leap last season and continues to shine in this one as well. His play and rising fame led to Nike releasing Morant’s first signature shoes. While they looked great, Basketball Forever noticed that Ja’s Nike logo looks a lot like the logo of Kobe Bryant turned upside down.

NBA fans were split on the matter, with some not seeing much of a similarity.

“Eh, not really. This a Michael Jordan at the end of Space Jam reach.”

“I don’t know bout all that..”

“I said it once and I’ll say it every time I see this logo, it’s trash. It’s trash because it’s lazy and lacks originality and branding.”

“Hmmm… If Im Ja I wouldn’t push through with this logo…”

“Nahhh all I see is a JA”

“I didn’t know Kobe’s name was spelt Ja .. literally says Ja”

“Nike went to Fiverr”

“I love it.. I just don’t respect the resemblance of Kobe’s mamba symbol, however I think Kobe would love the gesture..

Like mike told Kobe.. you can wear the shoes but you can’t fill them..

Same rules apply to this.. save your hate, mamba all day.”

“Love Ja but as a true fan of Kobe can’t support. Come up with something else and I’ll give you my little change”

“That’s not the same thing”

“Low-key looks like some 6 year old drew it”

“They could’ve done a way better job but clearly the design team was lazy”

“Kobe wife don’t play that sh**. Ja will get Sued! “

“If ‘ja’s logo is kobe’s upside down’ means ‘vaguely resembles a triangle’ then yeah, you guys nailed this take.”

“Ohhhh D AUDACITY of these PUNKS. I see what yall done here and I AINT LIKIN IT”

“I’m leave that alone”

“100 billion dollar company and this is what their graphic designers came up with …… coulda went to a grade school and asked a 1st grader to design it”

“Such a reach, if it’s like that, any triangle shaped logo was designed after Kobe’s”

“Yoo dont do tht. Leave Kobe an Jordan out of tht. Make him find another 1”

“How is the same as Kobe upside down do i need to close my eyes a bit to or some”

A lot of them weren’t too happy with the design in general. The inspiration for the logo was his name above a chevron to represent the family mantra that Ja is beneath no one. There always tends to be some kind of criticism when these come out, as you can’t really please everyone. Also personally, there doesn’t seem to be much of a similarity to Kobe’s logo, but some people clearly feel there is.

Ja Morant Has Been Put On Blast Recently

The logo isn’t the only thing that people have had an issue with Morant for. He and his team have quickly become quite polarizing because of their cockiness and how much they run their mouth.

Morant had stated that he isn’t concerned about any team in the Western Conference and he got a slice of humble pie when the Golden State Warriors without Stephen Curry demolished the Grizzlies on Christmas. Still, that is not going to deter them from speaking their mind but they can expect more backlash coming their way anytime they have another slip-up like this.
