The Brooklyn Nets are linked with two big men even as they continue their climb in the Eastern Conference standings.
The side is now 17-12 and placed fourth after stacking up a string of wins. Earlier this week, the Nets were connected to Kris Dunn.
Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey focused on the 28-year-old who has been creating waves in the G League and was looked at as a potential signing to further bolster the Nets. In addition to the playmaker, Brooklyn’s options also included veterans Hassan Whiteside and DeMarcus Cousins.
“Dunn is a good perimeter defender who could be deployed alongside Durant. If he can simply eat some minutes, help the defense and score as a cutter, he’d fit. Of course, Brooklyn may also be short a big man, too—even with the roster healthy. The answer could be as simple as Hassan Whiteside or DeMarcus Cousins (more on them later).”
Adding a center wouldn’t be a bad move, given the Nets could use an experienced campaigner as they make the playoff push. They do have Nic Claxton and Day’Ron Sharpe for now but will look for a versatile big to add more depth in that department.
Bailey reckoned that both Whiteside and Cousins were instrumental last season, averaging 8.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks, and 8.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, along with 1.7 assists for their sides, respectively.
The Brooklyn Nets Have Been On A Roll
The Brooklyn Nets have won four of their last five games. This comes on the back of a rocky start riddled with controversies that started from Kevin Nash’s ouster to Kyrie Irving’s suspension and subsequent return. Not to forget, Kevin Durant’s own blockbuster interview caused ripples in the NBA circuit.
Durant credited a favorable schedule and some good basketball as the reasons behind the Nets’ surge. Speaking to the media earlier this week, he said:
“Favorable schedule, being at home for seven of those, and being able to wake up in our own beds and have our own routine at home definitely matters, we also faced teams that missed a couple of guys as well but for the most part, I like the brand of basketball we played on both ends of the floor.”
The Nets play the Toronto Raptors next, followed by Detroit Pistons and the Golden State Warriors.
