Jamal Murray has emerged as the second star of the Denver Nuggets as his career has progressed. In the 2020-21 season, Murray was taking the next level, averaging over 20 points per game for the first time in his career while also shooting over 40% from three-point range. But the Nuggets star got injured that season after 48 games and went on to miss the next entire season thanks to his ACL injury as well.

In both seasons, the Denver Nuggets had the MVP, Nikola Jokic, but weren’t able to perform too well in the postseason. A lot of this could be put down to Jamal Murray‘s absence, as well as some injury woes for Michael Porter Jr., Although Murray is young as well as talented, it seems that doubts got the better of him at times during this period as well, as Coach Mike Malone recently revealed to the press.

Jamal Murray: “Are you guys gonna trade me? Maybe I’m damaged goods, maybe [the Nuggets] don’t want me anymore.”

Mike Malone: “Jamal, we love you. I love you. You’re not being traded. You’re gonna come back and be a better player. Zero doubt in my mind… You have to believe that.”

Jokic’s MVP play did put a lot of pressure on the Denver Nuggets to try and do something to help him, but the long-term vision has seemingly always involved Murray. And if his performances in the 2019-20 playoffs are anything to go by, the Nuggets can expect some big things when he gets back to his best. For his part, Murray thinks the team can win it all.

Jamal Murray Believes The Nuggets Can Reach The NBA Finals

The Denver Nuggets have become underrated in recent times, and a part of it has been thanks to people questioning how Murray would play upon his return. But the man himself expects big things from the group this season, and he said as much.

“I know I’m not where I want to be yet in terms of the level of play, but I feel like once we hit the stride and once we hit our rhythm, I feel like will be top 3 in the league, at the Finals… But that’s where we see ourselves, is at the top.”

The Nuggets have a 15-10 record, just half a win out of the second seed in the Western Conference. And Jamal Murray recently hit an insane game-winner against the Portland Trail Blazers. So if this is it and he is heating up once more, then it’s time for the Nuggets to finally start sizzling once again.
