Even though he was an All-Star in the past, Russell Westbrook had an extremely poor season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Many have criticized him for committing poor turnovers, taking baffling shots, and not being able to adapt to being next to two superstars like LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Even though the Lakers’ big 3 of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook did not end up working out, it seems as though they’re committed to trying their partnership a productive one next season. Chris Haynes previously reported that the three stars had a phone call where they vowed to make things work on the Lakers.
The Los Angeles Lakers’ Big 3 of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook huddled up on a phone conversation the first weekend of NBA Summer League in Las Vegas with each expressing their commitment to one another and vowing to make it work, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
While the uncertainty of Westbrook’s future with the Lakers remains, the conversation was organized to make sure all three were on the same page as long as they’re joined together in their pursuit of a championship, sources said.
Recently, former Lakers shooting guard Malik Monk spoke to TMZ Sports about the Lakers’ big three and suggested that they can still coexist as a unit. When asked about the phone call, Monk pointed out that the three stars are “grown men”, and expressed optimism that things would “work out for them”.
Interviewer: Apparently, all three of the superstars got on a phone call. They said that they agreed to work it out.
Malik Monk: “They grown men. Especially when they have convos like that, it’ll work out for them. They all great.
It remains to be seen if Malik Monk’s right about the Lakers’ stars. Perhaps things could still work out for them. Darvin Ham has previously revealed that he’s eager to coach Russell Westbrook, so perhaps Westbrook can thrive in a new system with a new coach.
Hopefully, we see things work out for the Los Angeles Lakers. They have already made a good number of free agency signings, and perhaps they can make some more moves to become a better team next season.
