The Boston Celtics are a team that is currently 10th in the Eastern Conference despite having stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown on the roster. It is clear that this isn’t the way the Celtics wanted the season to go.
Part of the reason for their struggles this season seems to be the lack of development from young players such as Aaron Nesmith and Romeo Langford. While the Celtics do have some good young players like Robert Williams, it is clear that a lot of their younger prospects haven’t been able to give them good minutes.
Bill Simmons has recently criticized the Celtics’ system for the lack of development, claiming that “it’s pretty clear” that something is wrong with the Celtics when comparing them to teams like the Grizzlies and the Warriors. He also added that Aaron Nesmith and Romeo Langford were “repeatedly buried from a minutes standpoint”, and were “standing uselessly in the corner on every possession” for “multiple years”.
…and if you look at the way Memphis and Golden State have developed their young players versus what’s happened in Boston, it’s pretty clear that something is broken on the Celtics side. They’re doing this wrong, period, end of story.

It’s hard to believe that after multiple years of standing uselessly in the corner on every possession, getting repeatedly buried from a minutes standpoint, and never being empowered to do a single thing offensively, that Aaron Nesmith and Romeo Langford haven’t gotten better, …and if you look at the way Memphis and Golden State have developed their young players versus what’s happened in Boston, it’s pretty clear that something is broken on the Celtics side. They’re doing this wrong, period, end of story.
There is no doubt that the Boston Celtics need to be better at involving their younger players on the offensive side of the floor and find minutes to help them develop. At the end of the day, Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown need solid players around them, and developing prospects is a fine way to get those solid players.
We’ll see if the Boston Celtics will be able to do better going forward and improve their position in the standings. There are people who don’t think they’re anywhere close to banner No. 18, and they would probably be correct. However, they can still be a playoff team, and hopefully, we see them make the postseason.
