NBA players have to be very careful in their personal lives, their wealth and fame mean they are always treated differently than normal people. This extends to their relationships, with many stories of players having issues with their partners coming up time and again.
LaVar Ball has famously been extremely involved with his sons’ careers. And he once apparently told his sons, Lonzo, LiAngelo, and LaMelo that the only women they would meet in the NBA are h**s. This came up in John Salley’s recent interview with DJ Vlad, and Salley agreed with the take.
“Well, the girl doesn’t see it that way,” John Salley said. “She doesn’t see it as a nice guy shooting his shot. You’re an NBA star, you got this, this, this, this. I got something right here. I gotta tell them all, you’re not a regular folk anymore… You are a lotto ticket whether you like it or not. When I met my wife, I knew I was a lotto ticket.”
DJ Vlad then brought up the LaVar Ball interview, saying, “He said, ‘I told all three of my sons that by the time you get to the NBA, the only women you’re gonna meet is h**s. Don’t think you’re gonna meet someone like your mamma.'” Salley replied, “He was correct… No, cuz you put yourself in a position of, what do they call it now, a high-value man. You put yourself in a different situation.”

While it may seem a little indelicate to say it in that way, there is some truth to the idea. NBA players make massive money and have incredible connections. For anyone in a relationship with them, a comfortable life is a guarantee and that will always be a factor outside of just two people connecting normally.
LaVar Ball’s Actual Take Was A Lot More Intense
While DJ Vlad paraphrased what LaVar Ball told his sons, the actual quotes from the man himself are a lot more raw. It’s not surprising he said it, especially as Lonzo got drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers. As per TMZ, he told his sons that they would never meet a nice woman once they made it to the NBA.
“If you’re in this profession, you got all this fame and notoriety — how are you going to meet a good girl? You’re not. So, I hate to tell you but you’re going to meet a h**. Just how it goes, son.”
This is a very mercenary way of looking at it, plenty of NBA players have excellent relationships with their partners. But it is also something to be wary of for stars in the league. Salley, who has seen it all during his time in the league and since seems to agree wholeheartedly in any case.
