Bleacher Report

NBA point guard legend Chris Paul is one of the smartest players in the game today. Even at almost 40 years old, CP3 was one of the best at orchestrating an offense and getting every one of his teammates involved.

So, with Paul’s basketball future currently up in the air, it was no surprise to hear him get asked about potential coaching one day. Interestingly, Paul didn’t seem even the least bit interested in that line of work.

“No,” Paul said. “Honestly, I’ll tell you, I don’t wanna travel like that… That’s why I love AAU, ’cause you get a chance to actually mold kids at an early age. ‘Cause when we get to the NBA, we ain’t trying to hear none of that shit,” Paul said. “For real, you get to the NBA, I mean, I can’t imagine coaching us ’cause we feel like we know everything.”

Being a coach in the NBA is not an easy job. Besides having to manage strong personalities and leading a bunch of grown men who are set in their ways, the pressure to win is always there and it leads to unstable job security.

For Paul, he saw the struggle of being an NBA coach firsthand with Monty Williams, who was let go after a disappointing playoff run.

Chris Paul Is Open To Staying In Phoenix

At 38 years old, CP3 might only have a few more years left in him, but it’s a mystery where he’ll be spending his last days in the NBA. While the Lakers and the Heat are in play, a return to the Suns can’t be ruled out.

“Absolutely,” Paul said when talking about staying with the Suns. “That’s why I’m there. I’ve talked with my family, we’ve had conversations about what could be, what might be. I’ve talked with my agent. Talked to my brother (C.J. Paul). I’m working out, training, spending time with my family.”

Wherever Chris goes to finish out his NBA career, there is no question that he will be remembered as one of the All-TIme greats. What comes after his playing career is something only he can decide, but we know it won’t involve coaching at the NBA level.
