The Los Angeles Lakers Los Game 2 against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night. The series is tied at 1-1, which is fine for the Lakers, but the big concern from the game was Anthony Davis’ performance.

After a dominant 30 points and 23 rebounds in Game 1, Anthony Davis had a very disappointing performance. He had just 11 points and 7 rebounds as the Lakers got blown out. After the game, Darvin Ham explained how Draymond Green helped make that happen.

“You know Dray, he’s gonna do his work early,” Darvin Ham said. “There’s a reason why he’s a perennial All-Defensive player. He’s gonna force tough catches, his on-ball activity is second to none and he’s a good communicator.

“If A’s not trying to go at him, we’re going into a secondary action after getting the ball to A, he’s great at that when he has to switch, talk his guy through the scenario. He’s been top-shelf his entire career in that regard.

“We gotta go back and look at ways we can move A around, put him in different spacing, different actions, and diversify his attack.”

Kevon Looney played significantly fewer minutes in this game, although he had more rebounds than Anthony Davis still. Draymond Green and JaMychal Green both played good defense against Davis, keeping his options limited and contesting the shots that he did take. It was an excellent adjustment from the Warriors and one that the Lakers need to figure out quickly.

Anthony Davis Was Blunt In His Assessment Of His Performance

While there are several reasons that Anthony Davis couldn’t dominate in the same way again, the man himself thinks it was a pretty obvious issue. Speaking after the game, he gave a blunt description as to why he had 19 fewer points in Game 2 than he did in Game 1.

“I took all the same shots I took in Game 1. I just missed ’em,” Davis said.

The Los Angeles Lakers would do well not to panic too much. Anthony Davis won’t have many more 11-point games, and the team has stolen a home-court advantage against the Warriors in this series. If they can win in Los Angeles, they will put themselves in a very strong position. Darvin Ham needs to figure out adjustments of his own, though, and Anthony Davis needs to step up when the time comes too.
