Dell Curry Reveals The Worst Thing Stephen Curry Did In High School

What is the worst thing Stephen Curry did in high school as the son of an NBA player in Dell Curry?

3 Min Read

Stephen Curry doesn’t have the rags-to-riches story that many modern NBA players have. Players like LeBron James and Jimmy Butler worked their way into the league as a way to create generational wealth for their families, considering they had lived in abject poverty growing up.

Steph was the son of an NBA player, Dell Curry, who had a great stint with the Charlotte Hornets after Stephen’s birth. Steph ended up living a privileged life in North Carolina, even though his parents tried to make sure he grew up with respect. As a result, the worst thing that Steph did as a high school student was when he got a speeding ticket in a school zone.

“Stephen lived in a mansion with nine bathrooms on 16 acres outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. While Curry was an NBA courtside regular in middle school, “I wasn’t in the pocket of privilege,” he insists. Curry’s parents allotted $200 in back-to-school shopping, for five outfits a year. Sonya dragged him to volunteer at his dad’s program for the computer illiterate. The family also took in kids from time to time…Dell says he and Sonya gave Stephen “the talk,” about how to put up with the cops. “But what’s the worst thing he ever did in high school? He got a speeding ticket in a school zone.” (h/t Rolling Stone)

Stephen Curry Comfortably Surpassed His Father’s Achievements In The NBA

Stephen Curry may have grown up as the son of an NBA player, but his father never let him get complacent as a result. Steph started working on his craft at an early age and dedicated himself to becoming the best player he possibly could be. Having a 3-point sniper for a dad meant that Steph could get special insight into his shooting form from his father.

If Dell was a shooter, Steph has surpassed him by leaps and bounds. Curry holds almost every single 3-point record in the modern NBA, and it will be a long time before we see players start breaking those records, if ever. Not only did Curry establish himself as the greatest shooter in the game, but he also did it as the leader of a championship-winning dynasty in the Golden State Warriors.

Steph is pushing on top-10 all-time status with his incredible career. The parking ticket he received in high school must be just a funny anecdote in the Curry household now, even though that may have been an incredibly scary day for the teenage Steph.
