LeBron James created history during the 2022-23 NBA season when he broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time NBA scoring record.

Following the historic achievement, many started to view LeBron James as one of the best scorers of all time. James currently has 38,652 points to his name. But is the record untouchable yet? Certainly not. Former NBA player Gilbert Arenas recently explained how LeBron could protect his all-time scoring record.

“If I’m him, listen. What you just did in catching Kareem, you have to be mindful that someone might try to catch you for sure,” Arenas said. “If you get two points a year for the next six years, get them two points added to the total because there’s going to be someone 10 years, 20 years, 30 years from now that will put themselves in a position to knock you out. If you don’t want to be knocked out, just be mindful.

He added: “There’s always someone coming after you at some point. So stay there, you already got it, just try to build [it]. You can build five, eight, nine more thousand points? Man, f*****g do that s**t.”

If LeBron James truly wants to stay the NBA’s all-time scoring leader, he needs to rack up a few more thousand points to his tally. After all, the game of basketball is getting tilted toward scorers at a remarkable pace.

So it wouldn’t be a surprise if a player manages to catch up to LeBron over the next few decades.

LeBron James Is Contemplating Retirement This Summer

LeBron James finished the 20th season of his NBA career. He helped the Los Angeles Lakers in reaching the 2023 Western Conference Finals against the Denver Nuggets.

Unfortunately, the Lakers were no match for the Nuggets, as they were swept easily. Following the 0-4 loss in the Conference Finals, James hinted at retiring from the league this summer.

As of now, there is no confirmation from the King about his final decision. But if he indeed decides to retire, then Gilbert Arenas’ theory about protecting his all-time scoring record will be rendered null and void.
