- Gilbert Arenas blames depth perception for Ben Simmons’ ongoing shooting woes
- Simmons allegedly has “perfect form” during practice
- Simmons vows to redeem himself after failed campaigns
It’s no secret that former NBA All-Star Ben Simmons has completely lost his way. After a couple of dud seasons in Philly and Brooklyn, faith is lower than ever that no. 10 can truly turn things around for his career. But if he really does want to start making things right, fixing that broken jumper has got to be one of the biggest steps.
Speaking on his podcast, former NBA guard Gilbert Arenas talked about that jump shot and how things are going wrong for Simmons: “I’ve seen Ben Simmons workout probably 10, 12 times… When he’s shooting, perfect form. It might be perception. When he gets on the NBA court, it’s bigger than a practice court. You can see the wall, you can see how far it is. I think when he steps on the NBA court, his depth perception is off…”

While not known as a knockdown shooter during his playing days, Arenas was still an expert-level bucket-getter and knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level. From his own testimony, we can gather that some players have a hard time adjusting to differences in size and it could be why Simmons is so thrown off every time he steps foot on the court.
At the very least, most experts can agree that this is a mental problem for Simmons, who still looks and appears in the same shape he was in during his All-Star days. The difference now is that his confidence is completely shot, to the point where he barely looks to score at all anymore.
Can Simmons Return To Form?
With several years left on his deal, Simmons still has a chance to make a major comeback. At just 27 years old, he’s still got plenty of good years ahead if he can just get his mind right.
Since the 2020-21 season, Ben has been M.I.A. as a star in the NBA and there are doubts that he will ever play like the guy we saw a few years ago.
But the word on the street is that Simmons is feeling good and he’s ready to make amends for his previous failures. All Nets fans can do now is sit back and wait to see how it all plays out…
