- Bryon Scott says Rob Pelinka is “executive of the year”
- Former Lakers coach says 17x champs are Finals bound in 2024
- Scott gives his seal of approval for Lakers’ new roster additions
Last season, we all watched in amazement as the Lakers turned from Western Conference bottom-feeders to legitimate title contenders. In the end, LA failed to close the deal and bring home the chip, but there is confidence around the league that the Lakers are not yet done enjoying prosperity.
Speaking in a chat with Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson on ‘Scoop B Selects,’ 3x champion and former NBA coach Byron Scott said he’d be shocked if the Purple and Gold were not in the Finals next summer: “I like ’em,” Scott told Brandon Robinson when asked for his thoughts on the Lakers’ offseason moves. “I like ’em. I love what they did in the offseason. You got to give Rob Pelinka a lot of credit. I think right now he’s Executive of the Year for what he was able to bring to the table. So I’m looking at that purple and gold, and I said this at the golf tournament the other day, I’ll be surprised if they’re not in the NBA Finals barring injuries and all that that we always know happens during the regular season, but very excited about the Purple and Gold this year.”
This offseason, the Lakers made a bit of a controversial move when they made a run for mid-level role players instead of high-maintenance superstars. But in the end, it’s hard to say the team didn’t get better after adding Cam Reddish, Jaxson Hayes, Taureen Prince, and Gabe Vincent among others.
Now, after making the West Finals a few months ago, the Lakers will try again to get things right, only this time, they’ll be able to start fresh instead of being weighed down with losses from the Westbrook era.
The biggest factor to success for the Lakers will simply be health. If LeBron (38) and Anthony Davis can just stay on the floor for long enough, the Lakers might have a fighter’s chance to come out of the West in 2024.
The Lakers Have Big Ambitions For The Future
No matter how you feel about the roster moves this offseason, Rob Pelinka didn’t go through all that work to watch his team fight for a play-in spot. Next season, with Russ gone and a strong supporting cast stepping up to fill his shoes, there will be no more excuses for falling short.
As a 30-year-old superstar in his prime, the buck falls on Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves to guide this team into the future and they seem more than up for the task. In the meantime, however, the team remains totally committed to LeBron and helping him win another title by any means necessary.
After averaging 28.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game this past season, the King still showed he has enough to be called one of the best. It’ll be interesting to see what more they can accomplish before it’s all said and done.
