  • Gregg Popovich and Tony Parker were inducted into the 2023 NBA Hall of Fame
  • Coach Pop was instrumental in helping Parker reach his best levels in the NBA
  • Gregg Popovich inked a three-year deal with the Spurs this summer

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich was one of the marquee names inducted into the NBA’S 2023 Hall of Fame, and his speech had the attendees sharing a good laugh, especially Tony Parker.

Parker, a Hall of Famer himself, agreed when Coach Pop made a hilarious statement that he would be in handcuffs had he coached the player now as he did in the past.

“If I coached him now the way I did then, I would be in handcuffs. Seriously, I would be behind bars. Don’t you think Tony?”

To which Parker was seen nodding his head vigorously. The 74-year-old also added he had softened up.

“I have mellowed, right? He tells me I’m soft now. So, I can’t go back to those days, you’ve got to change.”

It was an important night for Parker as well as he was inducted alongside his coach, who played a crucial part in shaping his legendary career.

Parker, along with fellow Hall of Famers Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and David Robinson, was crucial in winning four championships in 2003, 2005, 2007, and 2014.

Surely, the new-generation Spurs will be relieved that Coach Pop wasn’t the taskmaster he used to be.

The San Antonio Spurs Will Surely Get Competitive Under Gregg Popovich

After inking a lucrative three-year extension with the San Antonio Spurs earlier this summer, the legendary coach will be part of the team’s locker room for a little longer.

While some have written off the Spurs, they have new and exciting faces — one of them being the 2023 NBA Draft’s No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama. And under Pop, this unit will surely learn a lot more as they forge their respective careers.

After notching up well over 1,000 wins under his belt as the coach, it’s only a matter of time before the right roster moves and some desired results will make the Spurs competitive in the West.
