• Hornets center Kai Jones had a concerning Instagram Live a few days ago where it seemed he was under the influence of drugs

• Fans have been expressing their concern for the young Hornets star’s health

• Jones has come out and said he wasn’t under the influence during that IG Live

Charlotte Hornets big man Kai Jones concerned fans with a recent Instagram Live where he was sweating heavily and rambling incoherently. His teammates unfollowed him after rumors of drug use permeated the internet, but the rumors have been disputed by Jones himself.

“I was not on drugs or intoxicated. I was enjoying my night in my crib, y’all bugging.”

Jones was a bit-part player in the Hornets setup last season. He averaged 3.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 0.7 blocks per game and played in just 46 games.

He doesn’t seem integral to the Hornets setup though he confidently said on his IG Live that he doesn’t think the team will trade him away. Maybe that comment alone makes the team want to make a change.

The Hornets Can Have A Fun Season

The Charlotte Hornets are primed to grow together in future seasons after taking a massive step back last season. LaMelo Ball’s injury, Miles Bridges absence, and tanking for Victor Wembanyama meant the Hornets’ streak of play-in appearances came to an unceremonious end.

If LaMelo can be healthy, the Hornets will instantly be better. His impact all over the court is crucial, as he is an offensively gifted guard who can also use his size to be a great defender.  Coupled with the addition of Brandon Miller and the return of Miles Bridges, the Hornets have the pieces to be a very tough team to beat.

The bottom of the East is very open and the Hornets could strike and return to the play-in and hopefully end the longest active postseason drought in the NBA.

Will New Ownership Make Big Changes?

Michael Jordan sold the Charlotte Hornets this summer and ended a tumultuous 12-year run as the owner that saw the team enjoy minimal success. Despite being on an upward trajectory at the end of the 2021-22 season, a very troubled 2022 offseason coupled with an injury-riddled season meant they couldn’t take another step forward.

With the controversial return of Bridges along with the disconnect with young prospect Jones, the team could swing for a big trade if they get the opportunity. They have the contracts of Gordon Hayward and Terry Rozier on the books along with a war chest of valuable picks.

If Ball stays healthy and Miller seems to be the prospect he promises to be, the team could go for a risky move to acquire a star or another young star to solidify their core. The Hornets have never been major players in the trade market but a good start to the season may make new ownership feel the need to make a big swing and convince fans that the new ownership will finally lead the Hornets into the contending picture.
