- Retired NBA point guard remembers when Chris Paul trolled him with the ultimate trash talk.
- Paul had a legendary response after being accused of flopping
- Teague admits he was ready to throw hands with Paul after brutal encounter
There have been many stories of Chris Paul‘s wilder moments on the basketball court, and they usually all follow a similar theme. Paul, despite the way he portrays himself to the public, has built a reputation for being ruthless during games and we’re hearing about some of those encounters even today.
Speaking on the ‘Club 520’ podcast, former league point guard Jeff Teague described one of his most memorable times with Paul during a game in the 2016-17 season. “Quit flopping, ni**a! You afraid to guard,” Teague asked the then-Clippers star.
Apparently, Paul then turned to look straight over at the Pacers bench, which included Paul George at the time, and said this: “This ni**a right here talking sh*t like he ain’t just ask me for some shoes before the game?”
Teague admitted he wanted to throw hands with CP3 right then and there, and it’s hard to blame him for feeling that way, considering the heat of the moment. What was supposed to be a cool and wholesome moment ended up being flipped around, and Paul seemingly became a whole different person.
Interestingly, this sort of behavior is not uncommon in sports. Guys like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, and others, all had a certain competitive spirit that made them want to beat the competition by any means necessary.
Paul, it seems, has some of this energy, and it’s probably why he continues to be effective so late in his career.
Can Paul Win A Ring Before It’s Too Late?
Even without a championship, Chris Paul has done more than enough to earn a place in the Hall of Fame. As a 12x All-Star, 11x All-NBA player, and 2x Olympic Gold medalist, he will always be ranked among the top point guards of all time.
Unfortunately for Paul, despite his incredible hunger to win, he has yet to get the job done and he’s quickly running out of time to do it before his career comes to an end.
This season, with the Warriors, he’ll need to bring the same energy he had against Jeff Teague and the Pacers back in 2017 if he wants any hope of making a difference.
Only time will tell if the Warriors can win another, but you can bet that Chris Paul is going to do everything he can to help his squad complete their mission next season.
