JJ Redick played for Doc Rivers during his time with the Los Angeles Clippers. Those teams had the potential to win an NBA championship but never did due to various reasons.

Doc Rivers didn’t get too much blame for those losses, even though it involved blowing a 3-1 series lead. And he made some interesting comments about them that Redick was quick to use to clap back at him after the Sixers failed to perform against the Celtics in Game 7.

“I wonder if they cooperated,” JJ Redick wrote on Twitter.

The Philadelphia 76ers had the chance to close this series out in their home arena in Game 6 but squandered it away. The team’s offense stagnated in the 4th quarter, just as it did in the 3rd quarter of Game 7, and there was nothing Rivers could do to change that. Another failure to make even the Eastern Conference Finals is a very poor look for this team.

The Los Angeles Clippers group with Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, and JJ Redick had a lot of talent, but there was notorious infighting between the stars. Rivers couldn’t resolve that situation either. And while the players themselves will take some of the blame, Doc has to accept his part in what went wrong there too. In any case, this Sixers team had a lot of talent and could have gone all the way, so the fact that they didn’t is sad to see.

What Exactly Did Doc Rivers Say About Those Clippers Teams?

Players, fans, and media in the NBA all have a long memory. And it’s no surprise that Rivers was called out in this fashion. But JJ Redick remembering means Rivers’ comments must have struck a nerve at the time. Here’s what he said earlier this year about his old team

“Not trying to take anything away from that [Clippers] team. That team was never going to win… we just didn’t get along well enough as a group & you can’t win without cooperation.”

JJ Redick had shot back even then, claiming that Rivers was the reason the team never won a championship. But whatever the case, it is evident that there is no love lost between the two. Doc Rivers has bigger problems than what Redick has to say, though, another playoff loss in the second round means his job might just be in jeopardy.
