Entering Sunday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, things were finally starting to look up for the Minnesota Timberwolves. With Karl-Anthony Towns back in the lineup and just a few wins away from the 6th seed in the West, the team was feeling pretty good about their standing in the home stretch of the season.

But now, if you count Sunday’s loss to a horrid Trail Blazers team, the Wolves are losers of three straight games and are in danger of falling further in the standings. After today’s contest, fans pinned the blame on Towns for attempting just three shots in the entire game.

“How did you lose to a G-League Ignite team???” said one fan looking for answers.

One Lakers fan chimed in on the action to post this video of Towns going ‘invisible.’

“Towns matched up with someone on a 10-day contract,” replied one Twitter user with an attached picture.

Basketball fan ‘Smaug’ took the biggest shot at Towns yet with an infamous clip of ‘who he play for?’

“How many other supermax players regularly implode in must-win games as much as Towns,” wrote a Timberwolves insider. “Over and over again he drops stinkers when they need him.”

Giving full credit to Towns, it’s possible he’s still trying to work his way back into form after missing a large chunk of the season. It hasn’t been too long since his return, so it’s possible that KAT still needs time to re-discover his rhythm.

Unfortunately for the Wolves, the margin of error is thin after an up-and-down season, and the more losses that pile up, the closer they get to the end of their season and the more noise gets made about Towns’ uncertain future.

Could Towns Leave The Timberwolves This Summer

The Wolves have been vocal about their love and support for Towns, but it’s no secret that the ascension of Anthony Edwards has made the star big man somewhat expendable.

“Teams are already talking about it,” Jon Krawczynski said on an episode of the Lowe Post podcast. “There’s no doubt that other teams are eyeing this situation and looking to see if KAT will become available…if the bottom falls out of this thing and they go forward that way, there are going to be teams knocking on the door.”

Only time will tell how this season will play out for Minnesota and what response the team will have, but changes could arrive if they fall flat in the postseason.
