Kendrick Perkins Boldly Claims That The NBA Won’t See Another Dynasty For The Next 20 Years

Kendrick Perkins thinks there won't be any new dynasty in the NBA for the next 20 years.

The 2022-23 NBA season is over, and the Denver Nuggets were crowned the champions of the league led by none other than Nikola Jokic.

Jokic’s 30.2 PPG, 14.0 RPG, and 7.2 APG in the NBA Finals saw the Nuggets win their first title in franchise history. Many are already wondering if the Nuggets will be able to win back-to-back championships next season. NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins is against that notion. In fact, Big Perk believes the league won’t see another dynasty for the next 15-20 years.

“It’s the field, it’s the growth of the NBA,” Perkins said in a recent episode of ESPN’s NBA Today. “When we look at the last five seasons, we’ve had five different NBA champions. The Raptors, the Lakers, the Bucks, Golden State, and now the Nuggets.

He added: “You have every front office and GMs in their offices trying to see how can they get better for next season. Teams are going to grow, teams are going to improve their roster, they’re going to improve their coaching staff.”

With that being said, Perkins concluded with his assessment that the NBA won’t see another dynasty for the next two decades.

“So it’s going to be hard,” Perkins continued. “Not only for them to have a dynasty, but to have a repeat. I expect this; I don’t think we’ll see another repeat for the next 15 to 20 years.”

To be honest, the current NBA is full of talented teams. The Denver Nuggets were the fifth different team to hold the illustrious Larry O’Brien trophy over the last five seasons. By the way, the Nuggets also became the second team in the last five years to win their first franchise title. The Toronto Raptors won their first ring back in 2019.

Michael Malone Wants The Nuggets To Become A Dynasty

Michael Malone is currently one of the longest-tenured head coaches in the NBA. He was given the helm of the franchise in 2015. Since then, Malone has been the team’s head coach for eight seasons.

Previously, Malone led the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals in 2020. But after becoming the 2023 NBA champion, Malone is hungry for more. He even declared wanting the Nuggets to become a dynasty.

“The last step after a champion is to be a dynasty, so we are not satisfied,” Malone said in the postgame interview after the Game 5 win. “We accomplished something this franchise has never done before. We have a lot of young, talented players in that locker room. We just showed through 16 playoff wins what we’re capable of on the biggest stage of the world.”

It’s good to see Malone showing complete trust in his team. But winning back-to-back NBA Championship is no small feat. After all, only seven franchises (Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, and Golden State Warriors) have done so in NBA history.
