The 2022 NBA MVP race is a hot one, and everybody has a candidate for the title. The Basketball-Reference MVP ladder always creates controversy and the NBA.com one also draws a lot of attention.
It seems like four players have the biggest chance to win the coveted award this season, but more ballers could sign their names on the list as the weeks go by. In fact, Minnesota Timberwolves and Boston Celtics legend Kevin Garnett has his list, which features two players from the same team and has one of the favorites in many eyes at the 5th position.
KG recently shared an Instagram story revealing his picks for the 2022 MVP award, picking Stephen Curry, DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, Nikola Jokic, and Kevin Durant.

1. Chef Curry
2. Demar ‘KING OF THE 4th’ Rozan
3. Zach L…
4. Joker
5. KD
Curry is doing remarkable things this season, breaking records and demonstrating he’s set to win another championship with the Golden State Warriors. DeMar DeRozan is proving doubters wrong with the Chicago Bulls and is living great hours, showing why he was the best name in the 2021 NBA free agency.
Zach LaVine has taken advantage of playing alongside DeRozan, but he’s improved his level at the same time, earning some recognition from KG. Nikola Jokic hasn’t stopped and is still getting MVP buzz, trying to win his back-to-back award this campaign.
Kevin Durant is playing at a high level, too and many consider him the biggest favorite to win the prize. However, Garnett thinks he’s the 5th candidate to win it, contradicting what many people around the league think.
Garnett was never shy of sharing his opinion and this is another sample of that. It’s interesting to see he has two Bulls players there and Durant at 5th. Just like him, many others have their list. Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t there and he’s another strong candidate, but this is KG we’re talking about; he’s not about pleasing people.
