The Golden State Warriors made a massive statement on Christmas after stopping a losing streak without Stephen Curry against the trash-talking Memphis Grizzlies. The Grizzlies demanded this matchup after the loss to the Warriors in the 2022 playoffs, but couldn’t capitalize on it despite the Warriors missing Curry.

The Grizzlies have been talking a lot this season, with Ja Morant saying the Boston Celtics are the only team in the NBA that scares him. Even after he was asked about the West, Morant insisted no team in the West scares the Grizz. Considering the recent history between Memphis and Golden State, the Warriors were bound to start mocking the Grizz as it became increasingly clear that they were losing the game.

Dillon Brooks is one of the main defenders on the Grizz and has been regarded as quite an unlikable player. Naturally, Klay Thompson mocked him ruthlessly after hitting a dagger. The Warriors won the game 109-123.

Since Ja disrespected the rest of the West, the Grizz have stumbled to teams in their conference. On the season, they have a 9-9 record in the West, which is worse than 8 other teams in the conference.

The Grizzlies have put a target on their back and the rest of the league is coming for them. If they can survive this onslaught, this team might actually have the mettle to become eventual champions.

What Does This Win Mean For Golden State?

The Warriors needed the momentum boost they’ll get from this game after recent 30-point losses at the hands of teams like the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets. The team is fighting for a play-in spot right now and might be the most dangerous play-in team possible, especially with a healthy Stephen Curry

There are issues with the mentality the Warriors have had this season, something that can be helped with a win like this against a top team. They have the ingredients to be among the best. Hopefully, this win helps them start putting it back together and steady the team before Curry returns to the court.
