Kyrie Irving is hoping to shake up the market of basketball sneakers with his new partnership with the Chinese brand ‘Anta’. Irving has been one of the most popular NBA players in the world for years, with his Nike shoes being among the best-selling of their time.

Ahead of the start of the Anta partnership, Irving has revealed the logo his sneaker line will have at an event in China.

The logo looks really cool, though all modern NBA sneaker logos have become relatively similar looking. I would say that this logo is better than his teammate Luka Doncic‘s logo with Jordan, but let’s see if Anta can find the same popularity with Kyrie shoes that the player enjoyed when he was a Nike athlete.

Kyrie Irving’s Partnership With Anta

Even though Kyrie’s reputation has taken a hit in the USA over his political actions in recent years, his popularity internationally remains as high as it was. The reception he’s been getting in China is proof of the same.

Irving will not only be the featured athlete on a sneaker line with the brand but will also serve as their Chief Creative Officer. Instead of just branding shoes with his name, Irving will take an active role in the development and designs of his shoes and possibly others under the Anta umbrella. He declared he wanted to change the world upon signing with the brand.

“I AM Proud to announce that I am Partnering with Anta as Chief Creative Officer. It’s an honor to welcome them into my A11Even TRIBE as they have welcomed me into the Anta FAMILY. As Chief Creative Officer, I will push our teams domestically and internationally to unite like-minded Trailblazers who have the vision to create and build their craft to transcend the footwear/Apparel industry for generations to come. This is truly a full circle moment that I will not take for granted nor underappreciate given the many obstacles it took to get here. This Partnership is for all of those who want to change the world. Join me on the journey.”

Irving is the latest in a strong roster of basketball talent signed up with the brand. Former All-Stars Klay Thompson and Gordon Hayward also have deals with the brand, along with other NBA players such as Alex Caruso.

Why Did Kyrie Irving And Nike Split Up?

Kyrie Irving had a string of political controversies in 2021 and 2022. The first was his refusal to get vaccinated, electing to sit out most of the 2021-22 season as he wasn’t allowed to play in New York. The straw that broke the camel’s back for Nike was the anti-Semitic movie that Irving shared on social media, which led to a national debate over the treatment of Jewish people.

Phil Knight had openly said that Irving’s anti-Semitic beliefs led to Nike terminating their relationship with him.

“Kyrie stepped over the line. It’s kind of that simple, so he made some statements that we just can’t abide by and that’s why we ended the relationship. And yeah, I was fine with that.”

With the Nike saga behind him, an investigation by the NBA into his perceived anti-Semitic beliefs, and a new contract in a new city, Irving will hope to dive headfirst into having success in the shoe market and the court.
