Bronny James reportedly turned some heads during his workout with the Lakers. As reported by Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, Bronny James garnered a lot of attention from the Lakers for his defensive potential and his shooting ability, and would likely be a second-round pickup for the Lakers.

He added that James could be drafted by the Lakers to potentially ensure that his father, LeBron James, re-signs with the franchise after opting out of his player option, as he is expected to.

“In the second round, there’s one guard worth monitoring above all others: Bronny James.”

“James worked out for the Lakers on Thursday, according to people with knowledge of the situation not authorized to speak publicly.”

“James’ athleticism, defensive potential and shooting at the Chicago draft combine have certainly interested the Lakers, who could help make history by pairing him with his father, LeBron James, should he return to the team in free agency this summer (if he opts out, as expected).”

This will come as great news for Bronny and his camp, as there were initially doubts about his fit in the NBA. But if he has been able to impress the Lakers during their workout, that does mean that they will seriously consider using their 55th pick to draft him.

Bronny James Could Surprise A Lot Of People In The NBA

Recently, NBA legend Paul Pierce criticized the Lakers for showing interest in Bronny James and JJ Redick as a player and head coach option respectively. He claimed that the Lakers are not interested in winning a championship, but would rather be entertaining and put on a show for the NBA audience.

“I really don’t even think this is about a championship anymore. I think it’s about putting on a good show. This sound like a script to me, it really do. If we’re talking about, think about this, they hire JJ Redick, draft or sign Bronny, does this sound like we trying to move in the direction of a championship or put on a show?”

Many fans and analysts have speculated that Bronny is only getting the attention of teams ahead of the NBA Draft because he is LeBron James’ son. Stephen A. Smith even accused James and the Lakers of manipulating Bronny’s draft stock to ensure he gets picked in the draft.

James has stayed relatively quiet in recent weeks about the prospect of playing with his son. For LeBron, he has made supporting his son a top priority right now, putting Bronny’s needs ahead of his own career moves. But one cannot deny that James will be hoping to play with his son next year, something LeBron has been bullish on in the past.

Bronny did not have a strong showing in college, averaging just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 25 games with USC. James’ season was affected significantly by his cardiac arrest during preseason, and he played limited and staggered minutes for the rest of the year. But if these reports are anything to go by, James has wowed the right people and could hear his name called on draft night.
