The Los Angeles Lakers have had an entertaining 2022 NBA offseason, adding some solid role players to complement their Big 3, but those won’t be their last moves this summer. The Purple and Gold have been linked with a move for Kyrie Irving in recent weeks, but so far nothing has happened.
This won’t be the only concern they’ll have in the near future, as LeBron James is yet to sign a contract extension with them. A lot has been said about this, with some reports suggesting he might be working to come back to Cleveland and finish his career with the Cavaliers.
Nothing is certain right now, and LeBron has made it clear he’s committed to the Lakers. Yet, his delayed signing is drawing a lot of attention to him and the Lakers. That’s why the team is trying to get the deal done as soon as possible.
One executive even claimed that they are showing ‘major impatience’ to re-sign LeBron, so they can focus on Kyrie or any other player they want to add to their ranks.
“They’re eager to do something,” one Western Conference executive told Sean Deveney of Heavy. “The team they have is just not good enough right now. Everyone there wants to see a resolution to the (Russell) Westbrook situation. They want to see about Kyrie (Irving). They want to get what they can from Indiana once they start selling off pieces, whether it is Buddy Hield or Myles Turner or both. So there is some major impatience, and they are looking at LeBron (James) maybe getting an extension next month and they want to have everything in place. Well, nothing’s in place yet.”
The Lakers have a lot in their hands right now with their pursuit of Kyrie Irving and the LeBron James situation. After a terrible 2021/22 NBA season, they are ready to bounce back and show the world that they’re not done. However, if they don’t make the right moves or their experiment with Russell Westbrook keeps failing, they’ll be in for another disappointing campaign.
