The Dallas Mavericks’ season looks headed for a shocking early end to the season after their playoff hopes were dashed with a loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

The Mavs fought hard, but their defensive woes plagued them once again in this loss as the team has fallen to 1-7 in their last 8 to virtually end their postseason aspirations. Fans discussed what is the issue in Dallas after this loss.

The defense was a pressing concern for fans. “Considering they picked up a PG who can score but gives up just as many points defensively while simultaneously losing their best defender (who was also a solid 3pt shooter), we can see their problem is they give up 130 points a game. No defenders.”

A fan said blaming Kyrie so early is not fair, “Kyrie just got there lol come on man.”

Jason Kidd and Mark Cuban took some blame, “Kidd and Cuban. Cuban let himself go both as an owner stepping back and physically, and Jason Kidd has no business as a head man in the NBA, he is a former star player who is an assistant at best.”

Another fan said it was Luka Doncic’s fault, “Luka, but y’all wanna blame Kyrie.”

The front office was criticized heavily, “The entire franchise from players to management. They shouldn’t have traded for Kyrie, shouldn’t have let Brunson walk. Luka is a poor leader who cries after every possession. Blow it up.”

One fan called for Jason Kidd to be sacked.

A fan pointed the finger at Kyrie, citing his experience, “It’s not a coincidence that every team Kyrie has joined post-Cavs has been a disaster.”

Kyrie Irving led the team in scoring tonight with 41 points, though Luka Doncic struggled offensively. He managed just 22 points on poor efficiency but had one of his best defensive showings in a while, locking down Trae Young for large stretches of the game.

A Humiliating End To The Season

Luka Doncic entered the season as the MVP favorite and is now headed for a regular-season exit. This is a calamitous finish for the Mavs, who are in the first year of Luka’s new supermax contract and traded assets for Kyrie Irving, who may walk in the offseason.

A major rebuild around Doncic is required in the summer, with very few players on this current team justifying their spot on the team. Re-signing Kyrie should still be a priority, as the team really doesn’t have the assets to replace a player of his caliber. His offensive spurts have been great to watch, including tonight against the Hawks.

The clock for the Mavs to satisfy their superstar before he wants to leave the team is on. Last season was a triumphant success for an underdog Mavs team to make the Western Conference Finals. They need to win their remaining 3 games while hoping Minnesota loses all their remaining games and the Thunder doesn’t win more than one to even make the play-in tournament.
