The Boston Celtics showed no fight against the Miami Heat, as the championship favorites are now trailing the eighth-seeded Heat 3-0 in the Conference Finals.

In their Game 3 loss to the Heat, a game where the starters all subbed out at the end of the third quarter, the team look deflated and out of any fight to beat Miami. Magic Johnson reacted to the same on Twitter, saying he’s never seen a Celtics team quit on a game and empathized with the fans of the squad around the world.

“In my 44 years of being associated with the NBA, I never thought I’d see a Boston Celtics team, a franchise with 17 Championships, quit. I know Celtics fans all over the world must be disgusted and devastated. The Miami Heat blew them out 128-102 in Game 3.”

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla came out and openly said he has lost the roster and is finding ways to get them motivated again. When a coach loses his locker room, his time in a job is borrowed. If the Celtics get swept, Mazzulla’s one-year tenure as head coach will likely end as Boston becomes another contending team looking for a new head coach.

A Summer Of Shake-Ups?

Even though the series isn’t over, it seems pretty decided after Mazzulla openly said that he has lost the team. If players can’t be motivated by the coach, they’re likely going to struggle to get past the cohesive unit coached down to every play in the Miami Heat. Coach Erik Spoelstra has shown Mazzulla why only two rookie head coaches have been able to win titles in the modern era.

Mazzulla’s job is in danger and Jaylen Brown’s future is in question. The Celtics could also lose role players like Grant Williams, so they need to have a strategy ready to go for the offseason. It seems certain dynamics on this team have become untenable and can only be solved by freshening up the core of the roster, that’s now reached its sixth year without a title.
