Allen Iverson made a shocking revelation regarding the 2001 NBA Finals, where he took his Philadelphia 76ers against the overpowered Los Angeles Lakers led by Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

Allen Iverson is one of the most influential players of all time due to his style of play, the way he dressed up and his outspoken personality. His honesty was something that often got him in trouble, but AI never changed.

Now, he’s made a bold revelation about the greatest season of his career. Back in 2001, he won the MVP award and led the Philadelphia 76ers all the way to the Finals, but he couldn’t complete the job against a team that was too strong for them.

Allen Iverson Explains Why The 2001 NBA Finals Were So Rough On Him

During the first episode of Cedric Maxwell’s The MaXed Out podcast, the Answer talked about a variety of topics, including that season where he was close to winning all if it wasn’t for one of the best teams in NBA history. Iverson claimed that knowing everything he went through to make it to the Finals and how the series went, he would have been better off missing them (14:26 mark).

“When it was over, I was glad,” he told Maxwell. “That’s how beat up I was.”

“If I could do it all over again, honestly, I would rather not even get there than to not win it. Honestly, to get there and not win it, it hurt. It hurt. You get all the way to the Super Bowl. You’re the Patriots, and you won every game. Then that one game that matters the most, and it’s not yours.”

It wasn’t an easy journey for AI, who had to go through incredible teams to make it to the big series, and once he got there, the final boss was too much for them. He’ll always have that play over Tyronn Lue, where he stepped on the current Los Angeles Clippers head coach. Other than that and his magical Game 1, AI didn’t have the best memories from that series.

Some say they take pride in making it to the Finals, but for Iverson, he would have preferred going home before that.
