It seems almost unbelievable that LeBron James has been in the NBA for two decades and is still one of the best players in the league. Evidently, the soon-to-be 38-year-old has broken a plethora of records during his time in the NBA.

Usually, when people talk about LeBron James, they primarily think of him as a playmaker. While that’s true, the fact that James is also on the verge of breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record is a true testament to his skills as a basketball player.

In the 2022-23 NBA season, James has already surpassed Magic Johnson’s all-time assists tally, and once he passes Kareem’s total points, he will certainly make an ever stronger case for being considered the GOAT.

Dwyane Wade Shares LeBron James Eyeing To Become NBA’s All-Time Points Leader

Miami Heat legend and former teammate of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, recently gave an interesting interview with Sports Illustrated. During the conversation with SI, Wade talked about several things, including the motivation behind James wanting to become NBA’s leader in total points scored.

Via Sports Illustrated:

I can’t use the word surprised if I’m going to say LeBron James’s name in anything. I think sometimes we’re living in the LeBron James era of life, and we haven’t had the chance to step back and look at it just yet. And as we step back and look at it, it’s going to get even better than it is right now with what he’s done. Obviously what he’s done away from the game, definitely what he’s done on the court. And so I’m not speaking for him when I say this, but I will speak as someone who spent a lot of time with him. He’s not a selfish individual on a basketball floor. But I feel that if there is one record that LeBron wants to walk away with more than the assist record, it would be the scoring record. And it’s because of what people say he cannot do, right?

And because he’s so great at other things and it comes so natural to him, just the one thing that was not necessarily natural, he now has an opportunity to be what we know it’s going to take somebody another 40 years before they are able to even come close to, right? So it’s amazing. At least if I can’t be there on the day that he does it, I hope to be somewhere in front of a TV, and I’ll definitely be one of the first text messages that he reads when the game ends.

As Wade mentioned, James is certainly not a selfish individual on the basketball floor. He always searches for the best play according to the how the current situation of the game is. Oftentimes, LeBron has always been criticized for doing so instead of simply taking the shot himself.

Either way, James is just 795 points away from surpassing Kareem for most points in the history of the NBA, and it will be a great day for James’ fans when he breaks that record.
