The 2025-26 season could be pivotal for Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic. After making some noteworthy roster upgrades, including a sizable investment in their new core, Banchero set some big expectations for the team’s performance moving forward.

“Once Bane and T-Jones were acquired, and then even seeing the rookies we drafted, I would say once this new team was kinda formed, you look at the roster, you look at guys on the team, and you say this is a contender for sure,” Banchero said during an interview with ESPN.

The Magic forward makes a rather bold statement, but there appears to be some degree of truth to it.

When examining Orlando’s depth heading into this season, they certainly boast one of the most impressive rosters in the league. With offseason acquisitions and additions like Desmond Bane and Tyus Jones, the Magic made some significant upgrades to their squad.

Given that Orlando already had a solid core in place, featuring the likes of Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs, the franchise’s summer transactions have only helped it rise through the ranks of the East.

Last season, the Magic posted a 41-41 record, resulting in a seventh-place finish in the conference. Although they succeeded in securing a playoff berth, their postseason run was cut short in a series against the Boston Celtics in the first round.

Given the relative inexperience of the team, losing to the reigning champions isn’t necessarily a failure. In this regard, the upcoming season holds a lot more promise. With several teams falling out of contention due to roster issues, and the duo of Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner leading the team, Orlando could be poised to not only secure a top spot in the conference but also advance to the NBA Finals.

Paolo Banchero Will Be The Key For The Magic

The upcoming season is not only an opportunity for the Magic to establish themselves as a powerhouse in the East, but it is also a chance for Paolo Banchero to cement his status as one of the best players in the NBA this year.

While Banchero is regarded as one of the best young players in the league, he is often overlooked in conversations involving the NBA’s best and brightest.

For all intents and purposes, the 22-year-old has been impressive. Although he missed out on earning an All-Star nod last season, he had a significantly more productive performance than in his sophomore season.

For the 2024-25 season, he averaged 25.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, shooting 45.2% from the field and 32.0% from three-point range. Although he has been criticized for his reliance on operating in the midrange, it is hard to overlook the fact that he has been effective all the same.

Given his growth trajectory, Paolo Banchero could be primed for a huge season. But sustaining this form will be essential for the Magic. When also considering that he was only available for 46 games last season, having him healthy and available for the regular season will be crucial in helping Orlando secure a high playoff berth to fuel their postseason run.
