The Milwaukee Bucks have reportedly found their next potential head coach in three prominent names.

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski took to Twitter to share the latest update. “ESPN Sources: The Bucks are narrowing group of top candidates in franchise’s head coaching search: Nick Nurse, Golden State assistant Kenny Atkinson and Toronto assistant Adrian Griffin. These coaches will be part of final conversations with Milwaukee leadership this week.”

He also added that Nurse has been on the radar of the Phoenix Suns and the Philadelphia 76ers as well.

Nurse was fired by the Raptors last month after the team ended their season with a dismal 41-41 run failing to make the playoffs. He coached the team for five seasons, winning an NBA championship in his first year with the side.

His assistant, Griffin, is expected to return to Toronto as an assistant coach if he does not get picked for the role by any of the other franchises. Meanwhile, Atkinson has been one of the names doing the rounds, as even the Raptors sought permission earlier to interview the Golden State Warriors assistant coach.

Is Doc Rivers Still In The Fray To Land The Bucks’ Coaching Job?

Apart from the recent developments, it was earlier reported that former 76ers coach Doc Rivers was one of the options to replace Mike Budenholzer.

“In the hours after Rivers’ firing was announced, I spoke with three NBA front-office executives — two in the Western Conference and one in the Eastern Conference — who expressed somewhere between skepticism and outright doubt that Rivers would get another job for the upcoming season,” wrote The Athletic’s Joe Vardon.

“But then one pointed to the unpredictability of the situation in Phoenix, where new owner Mat Ishbia has traded for Kevin Durant and fired Williams, and another mentioned Rivers as a potential sleeper candidate in Milwaukee, and around we go again.”

For now, the league has no shortage of talent when it comes to skilled and experienced coaches, but the Bucks will look to add a name that can work alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and the rest of the Milwaukee unit that has built their plan on defense. Only time will tell who they ink the deal with. And right now, Doc has competition.
