Nikola Jokic Wants To Be The Tim Duncan Of The Denver Nuggets: “But I Need To Win A Couple Championships To Be Him.”

Nikola Jokic sees himself having a similar career with the Nuggets as Tim Duncan had with the Spurs. But the two-time MVP is aware he needs to win a couple of rings to do that.

The Denver Nuggets hit the jackpot with Nikola Jokic after drafting him using the 41st overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Most players who are drafted that late usually spend their career as role players in the league.

But Jokic is different, as he has only gotten better with each passing season in the NBA. So much so that the Joker has won back-to-back NBA MVPs for his heroics in the regular season.

The Nuggets have placed full trust in the big man as they signed him to a 5-year $264 million supermax contract extension this summer. Jokic has now entered the list of having one of the biggest contracts in NBA history.

The 27-year-old may be one of the best players in the league, but there’s something missing from his resume. It’s none other than leading the Nuggets to an NBA Championship.

Nikola Jokic Wants To Have A Career Like Tim Duncan

Nowadays, finding loyal players is not an easy task for any NBA franchise. In recent times, we have seen many big-name players change their franchises due to being unable to win a ring.

However, Jokic certainly doesn’t want to go down that path. If anything, the Joker wants to become the Tim Duncan of the Denver Nuggets. The reigning MVP revealed that on NBA media day.

“I want to be the Tim Duncan of the Denver Nuggets, but I need to win a couple championships to be him.”

While Jokic wants to spend his entire career with the Nuggets, just like Duncan did with the Spurs, he is still aware of the fact that he needs to win a few NBA titles.

During his career with the Spurs, Duncan helped the team win five NBA Championships. As a result, he is considered one of the best big men to ever play in the league. Can Jokic go down the same path? If he wants that to happen, he really needs to become a better player during the playoffs.
