  • Pascal Siakam’s trade news generated quite the buzz during early free agency days
  • The Atlanta Hawks had a package ready for Siakam
  • Toronto is eligible to sign Siakam to a max contract of four years

The trade talks over Pascal Siakam between the Toronto Raptors and the Atlanta Hawks have come to a grounding halt.

NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic said the discussions are “at a complete pause” and added that Atlanta is ready to head into the upcoming 2023-24 season with their current roster.

This comes on the back of his previous update that said the Hawks were prepared to offer a package of De’Andre Hunter, AJ Griffin, and draft picks for Siakam, but the Raptors weren’t keen on what was on the table.

Siakam will be entering the final year of his contract, and the franchise is eligible to sign him to a max contract of four years and give him at least $192 million. That said, Charania added that “Siakam and the team haven’t held any substantive conversations about an extension.”

The free agency has been a total disaster for the Raptors after their star player Fred VanVleet inked a deal with the Houston Rockets. And now, they are mulling over Siakam’s tenure with the side. Only time will tell how this pans out.

Multiple Teams Were Keen On Adding Pascal Siakam To Their Ranks

Pascal Siakam is a former champion, a bonafide All-Star, and an All-NBA caliber player in the NBA, and it’s good to see that the demand is proof of the recognition that he rightly deserves.

With the Raptors missing the playoffs this past season and possibly headed towards a rebuild under new coach Darko Rajakovic, multiple teams are lining up with trade offers for Siakam, per Canadian sportswriter Michael Grange.

“Multiple teams have inquired about the possibility of Siakam being available — Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, and Sacramento have made calls — and while few conversations have even qualified as preliminary, it’s not as if the Raptors have been opposed to listening.”

With the Hawks-Raptors trade now at a standstill, it’s interesting to see which of these above teams will be gunning for the center. The likes of the Kings and the Mavericks can use someone of Siakam’s skillset to make an impact on both ends of the floor, and that would mean greatly increasing their chances of going the distance with their current crop of players and Siakam.

This will be one interesting race.
