Patty Mills On Potentially Replacing Kyrie Irving: “My Role’s Gonna Be The Same No Matter What Happens In The Future”

2 Min Read

With the Kyrie Irving situation still unsolved, the Brooklyn Nets need to find solutions to that issue. The Australian-born superstar refuses to take the COVID-19 vaccine, which could make him miss home games this season.

After spending 10 years with the San Antonio Spurs, Patty Mills joined the Brooklyn Nets this offseason, boosting the team’s chances to compete for the NBA championship. Initially, Mills was expected to come off the bench, but things might be different with Kyrie out.

This situation would open a spot for Mills to take over from Kyrie and start games in New York. The veteran has stated that regardless of what happens in the future, his role will the team is the same.

“I don’t think my role — my role’s gonna be the same no matter what happens in the future,” Mills said, via Kristian Winfield of New York Daily News. “I think that’s understood, just controlling what I can control on the court and going about my business like I’ve always done. I’ve made the most of my opportunities that way.”

Mills is ready to help this team however he can. The Nets are considered the biggest favorites to the title and even without Irving, they’ll have big chances to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy next year.

Patty was a terrific addition for the squad, and now that Irving could miss so many games, his presence on the roster is more important. The 2021/22 NBA tip-off is around the corner and we’ll see if Kyrie will get the vaccine or if Mills will start home games for Brooklyn.
