  • Paul Pierce joined ESPN as a studio analyst after retiring in 2017
  • Pierce was fired by the network in 2021 over an Instagram live video where he was surrounded by strippers
  • Pierce drank alcohol and smoked a blunt as well in the clip

Paul Pierce was just about in the best possible scenario after retiring from the NBA in 2017. He immediately managed to land a job as a studio analyst with ESPN and while he wasn’t all that popular of a figure thanks to some of his takes, things were still going pretty well.

All of that changed in 2021, though after an infamous Instagram live session. In it, Pierce was seen surrounded by strippers while he drank alcohol and smoked a blunt. ESPN fired him not too long after that and Pierce opened up about that controversial video recently.

“I was at my boy’s birthday party,” Pierce said on Stars on Mars. “We was playing poker and it was girls just there dancing and alcohol, lot of alcohol. It was a big old controversy, I mean it wasn’t nothing illegal, it was just girls.

“I accidentally did my dumb***,” Pierce replied when asked who put it on social media. “… Yeah, I lost my job at ESPN over it. You know, we all make some mistakes. Maybe I wouldn’t be on Mars if that didn’t happen. See? things happen for a reason.”

Yeah, we’d think Pierce would rather be on ESPN than on Stars on Mars at this point. It at least appears though that he is admitting he made a mistake, which wasn’t the case earlier. He had stated back in April that he had just gotten fired for having some entertainment.

Paul Pierce Nearly Landed Himself In Trouble Again

Following his firing from ESPN, Pierce joined Showtime Basketball and it didn’t take him too long to get in a bit of trouble there. During a live stream of his former teammate Kevin Garnett’s KG Certified podcast, Pierce appeared to be drunk and brought an escort on the stream.

Garnett was clearly uncomfortable and could be seen begging Pierce to stop, but he didn’t. It didn’t cost Pierce at the end of the day, as he is still with Showtime, but things could have gone horribly wrong for him again. Alcohol is the common denominator in both of these incidents, so perhaps he needs to keep it in check in the future.
