The shocking news surrounding Bronny James suffering a cardiac arrest while training with the USC Trojans on Monday has spread far and wide in the basketball world. Prayers and good wishes have been sent to the James family from around the world. One particular observer had a dark reaction to the Bronny news.

Shaquille O’Neal‘s eldest son Shareef saw his NBA dreams severely affected by a heart condition. He was stunned to see what happened to Bronny and commented, ‘No no’ as Shams Charania broke the story.

Bronny James, Shareef O'Neal

Shareef is intimately familiar with the challenges that lay ahead of Bronny if he hopes to continue his basketball career. O’Neal was aiming for the NBA when in 2018, his life changed. He was diagnosed with a right anomalous coronary artery, prompting the then 18-year-old to undergo surgeries and rehab to return to the court.

O’Neal went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft, and the closest he’s come to playing in the NBA was being on the Lakers’ 2022 Summer League roster. His dream is still alive, as Shareef is currently playing for the G League Ignite.

Former 10-Year NBA Veteran Reaches Out To Bronny James

The news around Bronny’s health has devastated many people. NBA players have been sending good wishes to the James family as LeBron James deals with more adversity with his son than he has ever faced on the court. Former teammates are willing to help, as 10-year NBA veteran Ronny Turiaf has reached out and offered to help Bronny through his recovery. Turiaf underwent open-heart surgery in 2005 while on the Lakers.

“If Bronny ever wants to talk, I’m sure that I’ll be more than happy to talk to him… We have the brotherhood, so we are always there for each other throughout the ups and also downs. I think that’s what the basketball world is all about. We stick with each other, and I think that’s the testament to the sport that we love, and it’s about team sports, and it’s about togetherness. So, if at any given time he wants to talk, I’m always available.”

Turiaf and LeBron were teammates on the Miami Heat, five years after Turiaf went through surgery to ensure his NBA dream stays alive. Though he had a 10-year career as a role player, he shocked the world by being healthy enough to have an NBA career. Hopefully, Bronny’s NBA dreams remain feasible.
