Stephen A. Smith has fuelled speculation on a potential trade involving Klay Thompson and the LA Lakers, suggesting that a change of scenery might be the key for the struggling four-time champion. Thompson’s offensive performance this season has fallen short of expectations, posting his lowest averages since his rookie year with 15.3 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 40.4 from the field and 36.4 from three-point range.

“Me, personally, if he’s not in Golden State, the one place I wanna see Klay Thompson in, is LA. Let LeBron James have that brother to throw the basketball to and watch what that dude does.”

“Klay is still special. He’s just not looking as special as we know him to be.” (4:50)

Smith voiced his opinion on the matter, expressing a personal desire to see Thompson in LA, particularly alongside LeBron James. He believes that playing alongside James could reignite Thompson’s game, emphasizing the Lakers as the ideal destination.

Despite acknowledging Thompson’s recent struggles, Smith maintains that the shooting guard possesses exceptional talent, describing him as “still special” and highlighting his unique skills. The Lakers, actively seeking another star player this season, could consider Thompson as a potential trade option.

The Lakers have been in search of additional firepower, and Thompson’s offensive prowess, if reignited, could contribute significantly to their roster. Thompson is currently in the final year of his five-year, $190 million contract with the Golden State Warriors.

Contract negotiations between Thompson and the Warriors have reportedly been contentious, adding further weight to the speculation surrounding a potential trade. The Lakers, with their eyes on bolstering their roster, might find Thompson’s skill set complementary to their championship aspirations.

Klay Thompson Could Be The Greatest Shooter LeBron James Ever Had

Klay Thompson, known for his exceptional shooting prowess, could potentially become the greatest shooter LeBron James has ever had on his team. Despite currently shooting below 40%, Thompson boasts a remarkable career with 41.5% accuracy from beyond the arc.

Notably, he has never dipped below the 40% mark throughout his career, showcasing consistent long-range proficiency. Comparing him to other notable shooters LeBron has played with, such as Ray Allen, Kyle Korver, JR Smith, and Kevin Love, Thompson’s unique skill set stands out.

While acknowledging Thompson’s shooting struggles in the current season, there’s a strong belief that he will likely rebound and finish above the 40% mark, maintaining his reputation as a premier sharpshooter. The potential acquisition of Thompson could bring an unparalleled shooting dimension to the Lakers, enhancing their offensive capabilities.

LeBron has experienced the benefits of having elite shooters around him, with Ray Allen being one of the most notable examples. However, Klay Thompson’s combination of accuracy, quick release, and scoring versatility could set him apart. Thompson’s historical shooting consistency adds a layer of reliability that could greatly benefit the Lakers, especially in need of three-point specialists.

Although securing Klay Thompson might require breaking the bank, the Lakers may find the investment worthwhile, especially given the ongoing negotiations with the Golden State Warriors. Moreover, Thompson’s familial connection, with his father having played for the Lakers, adds an intriguing layer to the potential acquisition.
